Wishing you a New Year full of fun and good energy with anticipation for new adventures and new creations! Hope you enjoyed the Holidays with family, friends and furry companions as you look back to the many happy and warm memories of 2023. But now it is time to get ready and start putting our brushes to work!

Our Plein Air trip to Mexico City is fast approaching at the end of this month, January 29th to

February 3rd . Congratulations to all the participants and I look forward to meeting you in person and share some fantastic Plein Air opportunities with the expert guidance of TERE LOJERO.

But don’t pack your bags yet, we have some great initiatives here at home to make a great start for 2024.

IWS CANADA PAINTING Challenge is due to submit by midnight January 15th it is a beautiful winter scene and a good challenge to everyone, I encourage to try it, let’s put BC on the map!

World Watercolour Day – Live at Visual Arts Mississauga (hosted by Luan Quach)

IWS Canada presents World Watercolour Day, January 23rd at Visual Arts Mississauga.

Please let us know if you would like to do a demo or an art talk so we can add it to the schedule.
(This live event will be in co-ordination with our Zoom call.) 

Location:
Visual Arts Mississauga, Blue / Green Studio
(the furthest studio from the front office)

 4170 Riverwood Park Ln, Mississauga, ON

Time: 1-4pm

Activities:

• Get to know and connect with local colleagues in GTA

• Show / share

• Demo / art talks

• Joining a Zoom meeting (hosted by Ian) concurrently to 

  celebrate WWD alongside with members across Canada. 

  Although a projector will be available, we encourage you to bring  

  a laptop so you can join in the Zoom meeting as well

• Representatives from Rockwell Paint will bring in sample 

  products for us to try

What to bring:

• Your artwork to share

• Your usual paint materials if you would like to do some painting 

Note: Light snacks will be available.

Assistance needed:

please arrive at 12:45pm if you would like to help in setting up.

World Watercolour Day 2024

We are pleased to announce our program for World Watercolour Day 2024. We will be hosting a live event hosted by Luan Quach at Visual Arts Mississauga https://visualartsmississauga.com from 1 to 3pm on Tuesday January 23rd. For those who wish to attend in person, please contact Luan Quach so we know how many to expect.

For those too far to attend, Ian Wright will be hosting a live zoom meeting that will broadcast the goings on at Visual Arts Mississauga, as well as showcasing some of our members who wish to present demos to the group. We will have some prize giveaways and lots of fun features to make this years World Watercolour Day a wonderful event!

For those unable to attend either of these, don’t worry, we will be recording the event on zoom and will upload it to YouTube. Here is the zoom link, for 1 to 3pm Eastern Standard Time on January 23 2024. We will send out a reminder before the event.

Nous sommes heureux d’annoncer notre programme pour la Journée mondiale de l’aquarelle 2024. Nous organiserons un événement en direct animé par Luan Quach au Visual Arts Mississauga https://visualartsmississauga.com de 13h à 15h le mardi 23 janvier.

Pour ceux qui souhaitent y assister en personne, veuillez contacter Luan Quach afin que nous sachions combien de personnes peuvent s’attendre.

Pour ceux qui sont trop loin pour y assister, Ian Wright organisera une réunion Zoom en direct qui diffusera les événements de Visual Arts Mississauga, ainsi que certains de nos membres qui souhaitent présenter des démos au groupe.

Nous aurons des cadeaux et de nombreuses fonctionnalités amusantes pour faire de la Journée mondiale de l’aquarelle de cette année un merveilleux événement !

WINTER MEMBER CHALLENGE!

IWS Canada’s quarterly challenge is an exciting opportunity designed to unleash the creative spirit of IWS Canada members. This challenge encourages artists to interpret a single image in their own unique style, providing an opportunity to be featured in the IWS Canada magazine and enter a draw to win a set of professional Golden Maple watercolour brushes from Coral Ye Chen

Launch Date: December 1st, 2023 Submission Deadline: January 15th, 2024 Winner Announcement: February 1st, 2024

Challenge Guidelines:

This challenge is open to All Skill Levels: This challenge is open to both amateur and professional watercolour artists, fostering an inclusive and supportive artistic community within IWS Canada.

Participants have the creative freedom to interpret the tree photo from the previous page in any way they wish. They can adjust colours, compositions, and styles to suit their artistic vision. ( One entry per person please. )

All participants will be entered into a random draw for a chance to win a set of professional watercolour brushes from Coral Ye Cheng Maple Golden.

Throughout the challenge period, participants are encouraged to share their progress on social media platforms using the hashtag #IWSChallenge to create a sense of community and encourage others to participate.

All entries will be featured on our Instagram and Facebook pages and our favourites will be featured in the next issue of Canadian Watercolour!

Coyoacan Mexico 2024

Updates and details of the upcoming trip, coming late January, early February 2024 will be posted here. For now have a look at some photos of Coyoacan, and a video with Ian Wright and Tere Lojero who are organizing the tour.

• Dates will be from Jan 29th to Feb 3, with activities on 4 days (Jan 30, 31, Feb 1, 2) 

January 29th and February 3rd will be travel days. 

Here is our tentative itinerary:

• Day 1 (Jan 29th)

Arrival in Mexico City.

• Day 2 (Jan 30th)

– Coyoacan Tram Tour

– Lunch at Coyotes Plaza

– Plein Air Demo

– Art Crafts Market Visit

– Dinner

 Day 3 (Jan 31st)

– Plein Air Painting; La Conchita Plaza

– Lunch at El Convento Restaurant

– Plein Air Painting Main Coyoacan Plaza

– Dinner

• Day 4 (Feb 1st)

– Mini Workshop – Plein Air Sketching MUNACUA

– Frida Kahlo Museum Visit

– Dinner

• Day 5 (Feb 2nd)

– Plein Air Painting at Santa Catarina Plaza

– Lunch at Las Lupitas Restaurant

– Watercolour National Museum Guided Tour

– Farewell dinner

• Day 6 (Feb 3rd) 

– Departure. 

(for those wishing to stay later, may extend the hotel stay at their own cost, or Tere can give advice on other locations if needed. Flights to and from mexico city will be up to us to decide as there are many options. We may coordinate if we wish to have as many of us as possible on the same flight. This will be the next step after Tere has determined the overall cost.)

Canadian Watercolour – Fall 2023 now out!
